In a question I submitted earlier about whether all cultures are massive con jobs, one person replied that cultural reality is what lies behind the PR that cultures produce for the consumption of their own members and people outside their cultures.
Do you think that public relations is essentially culturally permissible lying used to manufacture consent and achieve reasonable cultural conformity and that cultures could not exist without this sort of deception? If you do, do you think that this kind of lying is a fundamentally important part of a culture–perhaps its MOST fundamental part? Whatever your conclusions about all this, why did you arrive at them?
