Dear [[Name]]

My academic background in communications and business, along with my experience in the marketing industry, makes me a strong candidate for the Corporate Communications position in the Chicago, Illinois area.

I am a recent graduate of Loyola University of New Orleans with a concentration in Advertising and Business Administration. I have work experience in public relations strategy, media relations, market research, and client communication in fast-paced environments. As the Public Relations and Promotions chair for a gold AFF-ADDY award winning campaign, I led a marketing campaign that met the client’s objectives and exceeded outlined goals. My communication skills led to a position as a journalist for a newspaper servicing the New Orleans, LA area. My interest in managing public relations efforts has led to two corporate internships in account leadership. Through my work in these positions, I have sharpened my teamwork skills while gaining valuable experience.

I believe that I would make a significant and valuable contribution to your company. I have attached my resume and can be reached at the phone number below. I hope you agree that my background makes me a strong candidate for this position, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

I want to be a publicist, hopefully a music publicist. Unfortunately no universities around me offer Public Relations, Communications or Media Studies. The closest degree was a Bachelor of Business with a major in Marketing. Will it be possible to pursue a career in public relations with this degree?

As far as work-load, financially and does anyone have a description of what each profession does in the workplace? Thank You.

I like both areas but I am a very shy person and I keep reading that to get a job in marketing/ public relations you need to be a very outgoing and creative person.

I may be starting a new career after the economy took its toll on my startup. I am very interested in PR/Marketing, as I love working with people, less interested in numbers. I have considered Human Resource Management, but find you need a great amount of experience to apply for those jobs. I graduated from Notre Dame with a business degree in 2008. Any thoughts or advise would be great.

Thank you

Hello!

I had a question regarding careers in the field of marketing and advertising. Currently, I’m majoring in communications with a specialization in advertising, marketing, and public relations.

The program is very broad, as it includes a number of different courses in television production, radio production, journalism, and–of course– advertising, marketing, and public relations.

I’m really just wondering if companies would hire someone with a bachelors in communications with that specialization.

I know that I would probably be better off getting a degree that’s specific to that field, but a little more than one-third of the degree is going to be marketing & advertising, and I will still be somewhat knowledegable about television and radio production.

I appreciate your responses!

I work as a Marketing Executive for an in-house Sales Marketing department. Although a small company in terms of staff, it delivers services nationally to some major clients. My role involves marketing and graphic/web design. These are my main duties:

• Management of all Marketing PR activities
• Design of company website, marketing literature, email marketing, display advertising and any other promotional materials, including client presentations
• Lead management - involves advanced Excel functions
• Database management
• SEO/PPC
• Internal communication
• Management of business partner relationships (2 major mobile network providers)
• An element of performance management

Although I don’t hold a marketing qualification, I have now been in the job for 2 years and get positive feedback from my employer. I earn £14.5k basic + bonus. Despite promises otherwise, the bonus scheme is barely worthwhile - weighing in at £200 quarterly (before tax).

Comments appreciated!

I want to go into the Advertising field. If the college I’m looking at doesn’t have an Advertising major, would Public Relations work for Advertising. If PR wouldn’t work, what major should I do to go into Advertising?
