Ok, I am trying to find a summer internship pretty much anywhere legitimate (meaning not some fly by night operation). I am studying Business and Management Information Systems at a highly recognized school for that field, however, I do NOT want to work with the computer side, more the business side. I want to know where to look for them online? I prefer areas such as human resources, event planning, PR, marketing, etc. I have tried monster.com and usually find crap. Any suggestions?

I’m considering doing a switch to a career in public relations. I’d like to talk with someone in this field about their likes, dislikes, etc. Does anyone know someone who’d be willing to talk with me about the job?
Alternately, does anyone know where I could go to find someone? H%ll isn’t an option; I’m already there.

Hello. I graduated December 2005 with a BS in Communications, concentrating in broadcast journalism. I’ve spent the time since then trying to get into law school, and while I succeed, I hated it and didn’t want the debt. So I was trying to see if I could get a job in public relations. I have ample public speaking and news writing classes from my degree, but no PR-specific internships which is the big source of entry-level jobs. How would I go about procuring one with my credentials? I don’t have a portfolio per se, but some clips from my news writing classes. Any ideas? If you desire more details, just ask. Thanks!

The hiring process has been going on for a month, they seemed to be anxious to talk to my references and get the process over with, I gave them good samples of my work.
Now, a couple of days later they tell me they are in the final rounds of interviewing other candidates. Is this common?
One would think that if they have seen you twice and asked for references, they would have it narrowed down to a couple of people.
I’m frustrated to learn that I have bothered my former co-workers to give me references, and it might turn out to be for no reason. By the way, the references were positive, so there is not an issue there.
I just would like to know if this is normal in the PR business, since I am new to the US PR market.
I appreciate any input, thanks in advance!

I am working on my BS in Computer Science, but am hardly the Republican that most engineers tend to be, and don’t really like the stuffy, ultra-conservative office culture. I can’t stand business a$$holes. I will graduate in two years, and am having nightmares (figuratively speaking) about spending the rest of my life working for some overbearing, bible-thumping manager. I know Google has a reputation of being liberal, but I watched their PR video online, and it was embarassingly repulsive and disgustingly sneaky, as is the case with most PR. I get the impression that working there would be no better than working at Microsoft. Right now the best job I can think of for a freethinker like myself would be some independent thing, but I am in no position to embark on someting as unstable as that. Any ideas? Advice from professional programmers would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! I graduated in Dec. ‘05 with a BS degree in Communications with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. I don’t want to go into a broadcasting job, but I got so far along in my degree I just finished it to have it. I’m now considering the idea of going back to school and getting a master’s in PR to make myself marketable in the corporate world. My problems with PR are that I have never liked the idea of manipulating the public. PR always appeared to be a rather sleazey idea (no offense intended) I think that if I worked for a non-profit, a school system or a hospital, it would be easier to deal with and more fullfilling to me. Does anybody here presently or formerly work in Public Relations? What is a typical day like? Do you like it/hate it and why? If you left, why did you leave and what are you doing now? Sorry for the loaded question.
Do you look at PR in a negative light as a profession?

I am doing My minor in Marketing..
I think doing a MBA would make the most sense, However I am very bad at Math’s.
Since I am interested in Advertising and PR, I was thinking if it would be best to do a Masters in that instead, However there is a major sallery difference right - please help…
I am referring to the GMAT test that is required to get into any top B school
