Alright, so. I think that I am getting the wrong perception of people who work in a PR firm that focuses on fashion, beauty, luxury, etc. Do they really just attend a lot of high class events, party all the time, mingle and schmooze, meet famous & important people, and get impressive freebies? It seems that every novel I’ve read (particularly Everyone Worth Knowing) that includes someone working in PR depicts this lifestyle. How true is this to real life?

I am in college, working toward my BA in Public Relations. Technically, I’m going for my AS in Journalism/Public Relations, then transferring to a university to get my BA in Communications with an emphasis on Public Relations. I’m trying to figure out the best careers to go with when it comes to Public Relations. Any thoughts? Also, I was curious as to where the biggest job market is.

I was recently let go from a public relations job in fort lauderdale florida which is ok because I am a writer. The problem and reason for the past job is that I have no idea how to get a job in journalism that is not freelance. My mother was a struggling freelance artist her whole life. I have lots of media contacts, but do not know how to approach them especially now that many are going to know i was laid off. Any advice?

I’m in my second year of college majoring in PR. I am looking for an internship this summer but most companies seem to be looking for a junior or senior. I have a lot of leadership experience; was VP of a Business club and a student Senator of our Student Government. In addition I have a 3.7 GPA while working full-time. So, I look great on paper but wondering if I have a real shot at interning a year early. What kind of companies should I look for? What’s the BEST way to get the position?
