is it possible to get citizenship immediately after 2 years of PR in australia?

Am a PR in Australia for the past one year. I would like to apply for citizenship and would like to know when I can get the citizenship?
How many years should I stay in Australia to get the citizenship?
How long does it take to get the citizenship once I apply for it?

You have to be a permanent residence for two years then you can apply for citizenship. For more information go to

After 2 years of being physically resident in Australia as a Permanent Resident you can apply for Australian Citizenship. Please note that this is likely to increase to 3 years in the near future.

The citizenship process is relatively quick, usually only a month or so.
