Depending on the area you choose to go, public relations can be a very tough industry. I would suggest you look at the t.v. news peoples backgrounds and see what it took for them. They are always in the public eye.
People that I have known that get into PR were journalists, former politicians (reps, senators). It’s a who-you-know business. You can start by doing some informational interviews with friends you know who are in the field. Or you can troll the yellow pages and the internet and bullet out letters or make phone calls to as many PR people as you can and talk to them. Tell them you are not looking for a job, you just want to talk to them for information. But like a job interview, limit your time with them to under an hour, dress business conservative, and send a thank you note to every person who helps you in this regard. You may not get hired by that person who interviews you- but that person might know a person who knows someone else who has a growing PR firm and needs extra help and you’re in.
