a great PR man starts from listening you must be a good listener into every situation so that you know how, when and what to respond to the people around you… just make sure you sound sincere and convincing and how can you do this?
you need to further improve your general knowledge sometimes a good conversation is when you impart something that is unknown to your listener… in this case, your convincing power will be as good as your charm!
1. First for each individual customer you have to find some common references to break the ice. It makes a lot of difference to make you closer to customers. For example similar educational background, interest in sports, sympathy towards some social cause et.
2. You need to tailor your communication with respect to age, gender, ethnic background & education level of the customers. You have to come to the level of customer in order to get his/her confidence.
3. You have to put yourself in the shoes of customers to analyse, how to make them confortable with you/your firm.
4. You have to be honest and have to develop a relation that customer thinks that you are on his side. Short selling can cause you a lot of long term demage.
5. Persistance is the key for longterm relationships.

My 2 cents since i am involved in similar job.
