Some careers listed are: communications research, regulatory agencies, advertising, public relations, consulting, audience measurement, communication positions in government, corporate, non-profit and cultural organizations.
I know what some of those are, but generally speaking: I don’t get it. Can someone explain some career choice ideas please.

If you are doing communication studies with no specific emphasis then you can work just about anywhere. That’s why the careers listed are so non specific. What you will be doing, however, depends on what position you end up with.
I’m going into public relations which involves targeting specific audiences with particular messages in order to help the organization maintain the proper image. A communication specific job would most likely have you doing writing, employee relations, editing, etc.
