Don’t ever say no comment. This just angers the media and they start doing their own investigating without including you. It’s better for them to involve you versus alienating you and the company. If you are in the middle of an investigation and don’t know a lot of the details, then say that. Be honest and tell them that you will report your findings as soon as they become available. Don’t be deceptive. If your company is in the wrong, then admit this and offer solutions as to how you are going to remedy the situation.

Lawyers may be right in the court of law, but they aren’t in the court of public opinion. Therefore, it’s not always best to take the opinion of a lawyer. You may want to seek PR council via an agency or firm who is experienced in handling crisis situations.
