I’ve been working out for quite awhile but I’ve never fully understood bench pressing in terms of weights in relation to reps. Are the two inversely related where you start off lighter weight with more reps and progress towards heavier weight and less repetitions?
Thank you

yes…as the repititions decrease, the weight should increase so it is not too esay to get out the last few reps. otherwise youre muscles wont be broken down enough and they wont be anle to build back up stronger.
Start with a good amount of weight n keep doing reps while adding more within time then add more weight when you feel like your doing a lot of reps 2 get the same feeling when u were starting off
What the guy who posted above is right.. For more muscle you need more weight and less reps. This is also true for any muscle group and not just limited to the bench press.

if you want to get big muscles- more weight with less reps
if you want to get lean muscles- less weight more reps

Depends on what your goal is.
If you are trying to tone up, lift lighter weights with more reps
I you are trying to bulk up, lift heavier weights with less reps
