Bench press problems?

I am 5′7” weigh 140 and could probably max out on the bench at 100?????
I do a much larger weight on other chest machines/excersises in relation to bench pressing. i also am fairly strong otherwise. Why is this so?

bench is much harder than the machines (which is good) because you have to stabilize the weight yourself. This, in the long run, makes you much much stronger and builds better muscle mass than machines. It could be biceps or just chest muscles (though it seems like you do have strong chest muscles).
In any case if you want to see it go up, add a small increment like 2.5 lbs every single time you lift and you will get up there faster than you think. And if you think you really need work in that area, push ups are a good prep for benching- 9 sets of 20 push ups a day religiously for a month and then try out the bench, you will be very pleased!

your muscles probably arent used to working in that direction or contracting that way. Jus tkeep working on it and that number wont stay there for long. trust me :)

a lot of times people are stronger in some areas than others. I am a lot stronger in my arms than chest. You just need to put more time into the bench. The chest is also a muscle that atrophies fast.

I find that some of the muscles in my arms, chest, shoulders, are just stronger than others. Just work on them, increase the weight, and at first, try to do 3 sets of 8 reps, before you know it, you’ll be able to do 12 or 15, then you up your weight. Just push yourself towards a goal and before you know it, you’ll have the body you want. I still can’t believe these arms belong to me, and my chest muscles look great. Good luck!
