Public relations is the management of the flow of information between a company and the public. A lot of businesses have their own internal PR departments, or they may hire a PR firm to handle the work. Public relations is not the same as advertising… PR groups are responsible for managing how a company is depicted in the news, making sure the company has a good public image in the community. That might include press releases about changes at the business, or arranging for an executive to speak at a major industry conference, or coordinating a sponsorship of a community event. Advertising is about getting consumers or businesses to buy a company’s products or services.
