The information I’m looking for is: How many elections are held in the US each year? I’m talking about all elections, from the president and congress down to state and city offices and including other elected office like school boards and the like. Basically anybody that has to run for any level of public office. No doubt that varies by year. So I’m probably asking how many elections are held over a four cycle by year.
A related question is: how much money is spent running for office and how does that many break down; office, staff, mailings, PR, advertsing, etc? It would be especially valuable to find numbers for advertising that broken down into direct mail, TV, radio, Internet, outdoor, etc.

1) More than I want to count.
2) There are no elections for dog catcher.

You elect the dog catcher? Sorry, I don’t know the answer to your question though.

As a political science major, i can tell you that there are more than you can count- somewhere in the thousands.
As for the money, check the FEC website for information on campaign finance. It varies by position and whether it is a federal/state/local election.
