In any ’strategy’ you also highlight the deficits of your opponent. Unfortunately in today’s society there is not the attention span to keep up with policy arguments at this stage. Would have to happen closer to November.
However, building a case or sowing the seeds of doubt is a strategy that is quite effective when you have mounting evidence from which to build the strategy.
BTW - the general public doesn’t understand or comprehend such heavy topics as economy or foreign relations. Only what is spoonfed by the media. Would be tough for McCain to highlight is superior positions and it be understood.
They are stupid people who usually do things that lack integrity rather than intelligence imagination. This is just another example of it. Meanwhile, Obama has more on his schedule today than McCain has all week including McCains town meetings restaurant meeting grocery shopping trips. Look at their schedules it is unbelievable anyone would not figure out the best candidate.
McCain’s agenda is vapid and distracting voters from the disastrous last eight years is all they can do. The Republicans have really f’ed everything up so bad that bashing is all they can do. I kind of feel sorry for McCain. He’s got to convince everyone that he’s the one while trying to make everyone forget about how inept and dangerous his party has recently been.
The point that is not being said is that Obama worked for everything he has ever has unlike McCain father handed him every thing, and yes even his pilot career (which he sucked).

Because McCain knows that this is his best stratergy to win; if he made arguments on his own plans, he will just flat out loose the elections.

Why is it okay when Democrats resort to this strategy (see 2004 and 2006)?

Look at history, the reason he’s using this strategy is simply because it works.

because this election is a referendum on Obama.
Oh, and negative campaigning (as you call it - the rest of us call it exposing the truth) does work.
