Been interviewed twice for a PR job, gave references, now they said they’re interviewing others as well. Why?

The hiring process has been going on for a month, they seemed to be anxious to talk to my references and get the process over with, I gave them good samples of my work.

Now, a couple of days later they tell me they are in the final rounds of interviewing other candidates. Is this common?

One would think that if they have seen you twice and asked for references, they would have it narrowed down to a couple of people.

I’m frustrated to learn that I have bothered my former co-workers to give me references, and it might turn out to be for no reason. By the way, the references were positive, so there is not an issue there.

I just would like to know if this is normal in the PR business, since I am new to the US PR market.

I appreciate any input, thanks in advance!

Anything can be considered normal procedure. All companies have different hiring guidelines and different people making the decisions. Don’t wait for their answer try for another job. You could end up with a couple of choices for you to make. The HR people are afraid of making mistakes too.
