I retired from the Court Interpreting profession. I can tell you from many, many years of experience in the courtroom, and after helping out people from virtually every(!) corner of the planet, that learning Spanish is the same, no matter where you go. There are MYTHS going around about this country, or that country speaking better Spanish than the next. It’s all Oxen Excrement (in other words, B.S.).

The accents do vary somewhat, and each country has its own ‘repertoir’ of localisms. But, if I was going to assign numbers to this discussion, based on my experience, I would say that 98% to 99% of the Spanish spoken arount the world uses the SAME(!) vocabulary and phraseology.

Sooooo, worry more about finding yourself a reputable teaching organization, ANYWHERE that is convenient for you, and hit the books! Good luck.

For your information, I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and lived many, many years in Mexico and in the U.S. I also traveled extensively to Spain, South and Central America.
    Hope it helps!
